Middle of Term Survey

Because the amazing fact is that truth alone will not set you free. Truthfulness will set you free.

- Ken Wilbur

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to pick what you consider the five most important questions from the list below, and then send your instructor those questions and your answers. In the middle of a term it is appropriate to stop and analyze the roses.

What parts of my college experience require me to muster the most motivation? Why?

What parts of attending college feel like self-care? Why?

What parts of my college experience feel the most satisfying? Why?

In what parts of my college experience do I feel like I truly belong? Or that I don't (yet?) belong? Why?

In what parts of my college experience are my personal strengths, experiences, and history most important? Are there places where these should be important but are instead undervalued, underutilized, or shut out?

How am I most confident about finding answers when I am stuck on a math or writing task? (Please describe the resources you use, whether people, books, websites, or something else.)

What parts of my education before college are most helpful to me as a college student?

Do I feel like I am the main character in my college story with the college instructors and staff being my resources as I move towards my goals? Or do I feel like they are lion tamers with me jumping through hoops?

Does the college listen when you need to share or explain? Do you have a key example?

Does the college notice when you are struggling or slipping? Do you have a key example?

Does the college focus more on your current state or your future self? Do you have a key example?

Does the college trust your opinions about yourself and about learning? Do you have a key example?

Which is more true, the college's systems help solve my problems, or they create extra problems for me?

Which is more stressful, navigating course tasks or the college bureaucracy?

Which is more stressful, navigating course tasks or balancing my family/work/student obligations?

How big a real-life crisis (with health, work, family, transportation, etc.) would it take to cause me to give up on my classes this term?

If there was one way the college could better fit your own time frame, what would it be?

What do you most wish your education before college included (but it lacked this) to help you be ready for college?

How has attending college changed how you see yourself?

How has attending college changed how other people see you?

Consider how the college sees itself. What is the most important way you think it has a false view of itself?

Consider how the parts of the college fit together. What parts of the college need to fit together better? Is there one part of the college that is the metaphorical weak link in the chain?

If every student was put into a Moodle meta-class that merely existed to ask everyone one question, what question should that be?

[Fill in the blank spot! Design your own survey question.]
